A Peek Inside The Joel House

With the sad news that Billy and Katie Lee Joel will be ending their five year marriage, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at one of the places they called home - Centre Island, New York, which is located on Long Island. This is one of the many enclaves located on Long Island that the rich and famous call home. This estate is for sale.

Billy Joel bought this home in 2002 for $22 million. They were married there in 2004.

This is a 14,000 square foot main house, which includes a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath guest cottage AND 3 bedroom, 3 bath beach house. My house is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath - I must remember to refer to it as the "guest cottage".

This estate also includes indoor and outdoor pools, a tennis court and a bowling alley.

So what would this little gem cost you? A meager $37.5 million (taxes are estimated to be almost $200,000.00 a year; I wonder if you could grieve that).
**Don't forget to enter our Giveaway (scroll down toward the bottom of this first page) for our Flip Flop rug - perfect for your "guest cottage"! Any comment made on our posts this week is eligible as an entry; the more comments you make the more entries you have!

I don't know how someone could feel at home in a house that size. I would have to stick to the guest house. However, the indoor and outdoor pools do have my interest :)

Welcome to SITS, it a great place to make new friends.

What a timely blog, thank you for giving us a peek into that home, it's really unbelievable isn't it? ;)

We are down-sizing from our "guest house" because the kids grew up and it's big for us now. Can't even imagine 14,000 square feet of living space!

Thanks for the welcome Sheryl!

It certainly looks gorgeous Marie, but I would get lost in there!

Wow!! In our last house (all 894 square feet of it) we installed a french door to separate the bedrooms from the living space. It was fondly refered to as the "west wing" thereafter! :o)

Kimberly ~ I could waste half a day just getting from the bedroom to the front door!

Donna ~ That's cute - "the west wing"! I was wrong, I have a 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, center hall colonial - might be too big for a "guest cottage", what with that extra bedroom and all! : )

Nice crib!! I always wondered how they managed the 35 year age difference.

14,000 sq. ft for two people - seriously! that is insane. I'm way too practical, I suppose :D

My word that home (or house...) is unreal! I'd love to see it and walk through it, but I would never feel at home there. I'll take my guest cottage any day! :)

Martha ~ Ah, there you go!

Carma ~ It is insane for those of us who are not used to something so big. I mean really, is it really necessary to build something that big.

Gals in the Know ~ I'm sure. It's always sad to hear about a marriage ending.

Elizabeth ~ I'm sure it would be much like walking through a museum, just taking it all in.
