Sorry, I couldn’t resist! Sunday I decided {in between a little packing} that I needed to work on something. Anything creative at this point! This rocker is on my list of things to do and, since I’ve found out you can’t pack paint on the moving van, I might as well do it now.
I had gotten this rocker about 19-20 years ago through Country Sampler. {Remember them?} I was into this very country look at the time and I had gotten it for my son. I decided to transform it for my granddaughter to use.
I started out by adding a simple wood embellishment that I found at Michaels. I glued it on with a Gorilla Glue because the wood glue is packed up already, but it says it can be used on wood. I painted it with the Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint and just did the clear wax on it. I’m kind of liking it as is {without the dark wax} for a little girl.
Of course, it needs a pretty little cushion. I used some of the Alice fabric I still had left over from when I made her a pillow and some trim I had in my stash.
I finished it off on Monday and I can’t wait to see if she likes it!
Next up is the headboard {I know, finally!}. I have two reasons now to get it done ~ first, I had thought it would make it easy once we move to just put it into place in the bedroom already painted and second, is the “you can’t pack paint” rule via the moving companies. Since I’m not working now, I hope to have that done this week. Here’s a sneak peek!
Sunday, Irene had turned into a Tropical Storm by the time it hit Long Island. This just means that instead of 74 mph winds {which constitute a hurricane} we had about 67 mph winds. Much of New York still got hit with flooding and downed trees and wires, but I think we were luckier than what could have been. I hope everyone who was in Irene’s path is okay.

Hi Kathy! I came over from Maggie's blog. I enjoyed your guest spot and was happy to see you're moving to my state! I live in Ashland..it's about 80mi. north of Columbus. A bit farther north of you! Hope your move goes smooth. There is a ton of fun things to do here. I'm in Amish country and that's a great place to visit in the fall. Have a safe and happy move. I love the chair and I do remember Country Sampler..I just bought one a few weeks ago! I don't do country decor but I enjoy looking at the mag for fall ideas.
Love the rocking chair and cushion!
Such an adorable chair and such a great job, glad you are all ok through that weather
Oh wow that is sooo cute! You did a fantastic job.
Oh, Kathy, it turned out so cute! (Yes, I remember County Sampler :) ) I could also see a painting of Alice on the back :)
Hey, this will be a few projects you don't have to do when you get there!!!
Great title and cute projects. Glad Irene wasn't too bad for you. Thanks for sharing at WOW.
Hey, Kathy! The rocker is adorable but I can't wait to see the headboard all painted out! Looks amazing so far!
Oh, you were right, that chair is a lot like the one I painted. It turned out so cute. I hope your little one enjoys it as much as my daughter did hers for years when she was little.
I'm so happy to hear you were fine through the storm. What a monster storm it was/is for so many.
I love it Kathy! It looks so fresh & fun. I am sure that your granddaughter will love it! Angie xo
The rocker turned out beautiful! Love your title..too funny!
Very pretty in white! Always listen to that creative call!

we just got our power and phone back. It is a mess out here! Still so many without power, trees down all over!
Glad you had no problem!
Love what you did with the rocking chair Kathy, and can't wait to see the bed. I sooo remember when everything was country. I really wouldn't mind it going back to being a little country now. I guess the redneck is coming out in me, huh? Signing up to follow you.
Came over from Maggie's blog where I enjoyed your guest post! We have a lot in common...a love of decorating, being a Grandma and living in Ohio! I live in the same town as Yaya above. We are friends, work together and our husband's are cousins.
Here's another thing in common...I have a beat up rocker from my children (it is in our grandchildren's playhouse) that looks exactly like your "before". You have given me inspiration to try this, it is sooo cute! Not to find the time....
I love this precious chair! The transformation is amazing! I love the embellishment and cushion! You are so talented! Your granddaughter will love it! Yes, I remember those country days and retailers too! I had Williamsburg blue cabinets with accents of red in the kitchen.
Kathy, it was nice to read you made it through okay with Irene. :)
I love, love, love what you did with that precious chair. I would not have thought to paint over the silver embellishment and it is just the right touch...that and the sweet cushion. Lovely job!

Your granddaughter will love it~maybe it will become a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation...quick, write a note and date it on the bottom!
I love how your little rocker turned out! White paint is truly the panacea!
What a sweet, sweet rocker (love the tassels, too). You did a wonderful job ... your grandbaby will love it, I'm sure. Glad you guys survived the mess of Irene!
That is absolutely darling Kathy! She will just love it and I'm so glad you weren't hit too hard by Irene. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Inspiration Friday this week!
