What Do You Think?

I need your opinion today, please.  I went into Hobby Lobby on Friday and saw they had pictures {among other things} on sale, 50% off.  I’ve been debating whether I want a picture or a mirror over our fireplace mantel.  I saw this canvas picture and was really drawn to it.

So, what do you think?  Besides the cardboard corners, which I left on in case I return it.  I moved the two cloches I had on the mantel in case it decides to fall in the middle of the night, because I just have one nail holding it up at the moment.

I think it’s too high though.  What do you think? Lower it a bit? I think it should clear the top of the clock though.

I looked at the mirrors they had and I’m torn between shape and color.  This seems an easy solution and it’s a nice image.  I’d be interested in your opinions.  Thank you!

Hi Kathy,

I love the canvas print. It works so well with your gorgeous drapes. Lower the print maybe have it leaning. Add sconces on each side.

I think it has to be bigger (wider). So you could add plates to either side or black iron sconces or something to give it more of a horizontal presence. I generally don't like mirrors over mantels because they usually just reflect the ceiling.

Kathy, I love it! It works very well in your room. I know whatever you decide it will look great!

I like it. It definitely needs to be lowered.

I love the image.. I wish it was Larger or maybe you could find a large frame and mat it.
If couldnt make it larger- I'd opt for a large mirror...

Beautiful! I love it and think it is perfect with your colors. I do think you need to "bulk it up" a bit...can you find a cheap heavy looking frame to put around it? Or, flank the sides of it with some plates, sconces, etc.

You're right- it does need to be lower but I DO LOVE it! xo Diana

I think I'm going to be in the minority, LOL, I would go with a mirror or a window (you know the ones I'm talking about) but I do agree with Amy that you need something wider :)

Love it but it certainly needs something on the sides... I do LOVE mirrors over Mantels so I am just as TORN as you... : )

Hi Kathy, I love the picture but I do agree with Amy. Can't wait to see the end result.

I think it needs something on the side... someone suggested some plates - would look wonderful and I'd lower it a bit. Such printing invites you to look at it - really see it - not only acknowledge it.

I think with it a bit low it wouldn't ask for the plates as somehow the topiaries in the mantel would balance the look.

What a precious room :)

I think you should go with a mirror. Something like the Quatrefoil shaped mirror sold at Lowes would look fabulous with your printed drapery and chair. I just don't think this print size fits with your decor. Let us know what you decide.

I would go with a mirror for sure!

I love it Kathy!!!! Simply add a row of plates on either side or something else long and narrow ~ it will be a beautiful grouping and much more interesting that a simple mirror ~ love it! hugs and love, Dawn

Hi Kathy, Love that image, but I think a large mirror, maybe with a black frame would look so good. If you use the canvas, maybe some scones would help fill in the wide space. Love your home, it's looking wonderful! xoxo

Wow Kathy, really looks like you have settled in! Picture is nice, but personally I like a mirror to reflect lights and colors of the room. Can't wait to see what you decide.

I was in the same predicament about a year ago. I already had a large mirror above the mantel but found a print I could not live without. I tried the print and used some painted vintage sconces on either side and the mirror has now found a new home. The print makes the room much more inviting and finished looking.

I like the print very much. I personally would move it down a wee bit. Then move the drapery rod up so that it sits right at the upper window line. It will make the area "read" better.

Hi Kathy,
I've been reading through the comments and agree that the picture looks great above the mantel but hung a little lower and with sconces or plates on both sides of it. Everything is really looking nice. I bet it feels good to get settled into your new place.

Although it's lovely, I don't think the scale works. You need something wider - or lower it and add larger items on either side. Just my humble opinion, but I'm good with scale.

I love the canvas, but I think it is too small. I think an arched mirror would look great there, pick up on the window beside it.

Your going to laugh when I tell you this....I have this same canvas...hung it in the guest bathroom...LOVE it! I would lower it just a hair....but I think it is perfect!'

Great minds right?

Hi Kathy,
Love your new piece of artwork. I think if you are going to leave it there, you may want to hang it a bit lower, and perhaps add some pretty sconces to either side of it. This will do two things, it will fill in the large wall, and add balance. Your artwork goes lovely with your curtains.

If you add a mirror it will bring a bit more light into the room and give you a nice reflective quality. Tough call.

If it were me, I think I would keep the artwork....I saw your very picture at HL last week and was drawn to it immediately, LOVE IT!

xoxo ~Liz
