The suitcase that I saved from the garbage has a new look now. Here is what it looked like before.
I wound up spray painting it with Heirloom White as a base. It was looking better already!
I decided to add some fabric to the outside of the case and chose these two fabrics from fabric.com.
I think these fabrics are just adorable! Vintage looking dolls {cream background} and the other one is the clothes and accessories {pink background}. I know some big girls who would love these fabrics!
I still wanted to make it over for my granddaughter but rather than make it an overnight case for when she comes to my house, I decided to make it a case for her dolls. I figured this would provide plenty of room for the baby dolls and their clothes and things. Here is the inside before.
I used Outdoor Mod Podge because I couldn’t find the Fabric one and I thought the Outdoor might hold up better. I slathered it on the front/top of the case and I also put some on the back of my fabric {that was already cut to size and ironed}.
I did the back/bottom the same way, making sure I got the most dolls I could from the pattern onto both sides. This fabric went so well with the Heirloom White color.
Then I felt like the sides needed just a little something, but I didn’t want to fool around with fabric in such a narrow area. To cutify the sides, I wound up cutting individual dolls out and I attached them to the sides with Mod Podge the same way.
This one reminds me of my granddaughter with the curly blonde hair and blue eyes.
For the inside, I cut my fabric to size for the inside of the top and bottom. I took the sections out as I realized they wouldn’t work with the inside of the case covered with fabric, which is just as well.
I hot glued the edges of the fabric to the edges of the case, turning the fabric down a little bit for a more finished edge. I added this pink and white adhesive backed trim to the edges to hide what needed hiding. It worked really well with the pink background in this fabric.
Here are some views of the whole thing completed.
And with a few of the things I have at my house for my granddaughter just to check for fit.
The big doll was my daughter’s when she was little, but that won’t stay in here. Most of her baby dolls are the size of the smaller one.
I really think this is adorable and hopefully it will also work to keep her dolls and their accessories neat and organized.

You are so right, it is adorable. You did a fantastic job on that tired little suitcase, giving it a new lease on life!
How adorable Kathy! Your grandaughter will love it I'm sure!
I hope you're right! I don't think I'll have any trouble with Chase in his teen years as long as he remains friends with good kids. He doesn't like sports and most of his friends do, so sometimes he feels left out. He's more into computers, chess and flying his RC plane. The two boys he had most in common with moved away. Thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad you didn't have any trouble with your son. I think girls are worse...I know I had my moments when I was a teenager. =0
I have been crazy busy with the swags. I have several custom orders I'm working on now. I have posted some in my store but they sell really quickly...before I can let anyone know! lol...I would be glad to make you one or I can let you know when more are posted. Just let me know...I am so pleased with my cute little towel and will post about on my blog. I am starting the mantle (when I get a chance) and then move on to other areas. I'm so ready for fall...it's been a long hot summer here.
Have a great day!
That is adorable. The fabric is the cutest. Way to go on your trash to treasure.
