I found this cute little bench at an estate sale for $8.00. I thought it was too cute to pass up and the price was right, so I bought it to use in the small area of gardening we have around the condo.
I think this picture gives a better idea of the size.
We removed this overgrown evergreen bush in the front and replaced it with a Japanese Maple this past weekend. So, this is kind of a double reveal post!
I didn’t want to leave the bench natural and I didn’t want to have to deal with peeling paint, so I got some white stain for exterior use, as well as a spray polyurethane that is also for indoor/outdoor use. Well, the stain idea wasn’t working so well, so I wound up buying some exterior white paint at Ace {only $3.25 a quart because they are phasing out this particular Benjamin Moore brand}.
After two coats of paint dried, I applied the polyurethane. I let it dry between coats but gave it three coats total. This is a satin poly.
I think it has much more of a cottage look to it now and I like it sitting under the Japanese Maple, which I am also loving. I am going to get a couple of mums and a perennial referred to as Palace Purple to encircle it.
They will be coming around to put down some fresh mulch soon, so that dirt will get covered with it and look much neater. Once I get a real pumpkin, I’ll sit that on the bench for Fall.

Oh I love it, what a cute piece. Perfect to hold flowers or pumpkins. Hugs, Marty
Cute! I'll bet E's little butt can fit on there. =)

SO CUTE, Kathy- that's going to be fun to change up with the seasons.
It fits perfectly in the space - you've got a keen eye. Also loving the white color and the fact that you didn't "shabify" it after you painted and polyed it, LOL! It's going to look soooo pretty with the mums around it, and a pumpkin will take you all the way to Thanksgiving. In a few years your Japanese Maple is going to give you a gentle leafy waterfall of color in that corner of your garden and interesting form even without leaves during the dormant period. Hmmm, I should get one myself...
What a really cute little bench. It will look so pretty all decked out for fall. Love the Japanese Maple too!

How cute! The bench will be a perfect spot for seasonal decorating. Love Japanese Maples, too.
That is really a cute little bench. I bet the stain didn't take because the thing had been sealed at one point in time. Love it painted white and it will look darling with a pumpkin on it- xo Diana

Kathy, I love your bench! You really made it adorable! It will look great decorated seasonally!
Great find! Love the maple, too. It's much harder to grow them in Texas or else I'd have them everywhere! Appreciated your comment on my blog. Thanks for stopping by.
