New Baby Gift Idea

I should clarify that title – new baby, not new gift idea!  My daughter’s friend had her baby boy recently and I wanted to get a gift for them.  While in Hobby Lobby recently, it struck me to do his name with those unfinished wood letters and some scrapbook paper.  Certainly not an original idea, but cute, personal and inexpensive enough to make a nice gift.  I picked up the letters for his name ~ Nolan ~ some craft paint, and a few scrapbook papers {Baby Boy is the name of the line}. 

I traced the letters on the papers I wanted to use first, then painted the letters. After they dried I Mod Podged the paper onto each letter.  Once that dried I did two coats over the top {letting dry between coats}. 

I think I’m going to pick up some of those new adhesive Command wall hangers that I’ve been seeing {they look like velcro} and include them in the gift box as an option for her, in case she doesn’t have a shelf to prop them on. 

 

Painted Panel Door & Booth Progress

I got a bi-fold panel door from my friend, Sue, to use in my booth as a corner backdrop.  It was white and I knew I was going to paint it to stand out from the white walls in my booth.  It is upside down in this picture because I need to remove the thigamajig from the bottom that catches on a track.

I wanted to do two colors on it.  I couldn’t find any pictures on Pinterest or Google images to get some idea of how I wanted to go about it.  So, I wound up winging it!  I painted the inset panels first with a La Craie paint sample I bought from Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage in Debutante.

I did the outer portion of the door in a black satin paint I already had.

Then I added some stencils.  I did a No. 51 for my booth number in white.

And here it is in place in my booth.

I really like the way it turned out.  I also picked up two shutters and I just painted them black.  They will be going up on either side of the entrance to my booth {under the pink tissue paper flowers}.   Other additions I made were the two tissue paper flowers at the entrance and a black flower ball {over the chalkboard with my booth name and number}, along with a few items to sell and moving things around a little.

I did hit an estate sale and a couple of yard sales two days in a row and found a couple of pieces of furniture.  The bad news is I kept a bench I found for myself, but the good news is that the table it is replacing in the sunroom will be going to the booth instead. I should have the items that need paint done and ready to go for the beginning of next week, so I’ll share those with you soon.

Silver Tray Update

The day my post went up on the quick decorating with the two oval shaped silver trays I found {here} ~ I found the third one I needed!  So, as a quick post, here is an update with the third tray in place.  Here is the wall with nothing {which my husband was more than happy with}.

Finally, with the third tray in place. I think this is a good way to see how much better odd numbered things work in décor, too. 

This tray didn’t clean up as shiny, but I love the detailing around the edge and that it is monogrammed. 

I really thought I would have a hard time finding this shape, but it didn’t take me long at all to get all three.  I found all three of these trays at thrift stores.  Tureens on the other hand ~ I’m still waiting to find that last one I need for on top of my kitchen cabinets!

Lantern Makeover & A Winner

I found this lantern at Goodwill about a month ago and finally got around to giving it a little attention.

I thought it would be a good candidate for a makeover to use on our little table outside our front door.  After stripping it of its Christmas finery and cutting off the faux rope, I decided to take the easy route and spray paint it. 

Using what I had on hand, I grabbed a can of Heirloom White spray paint.  I cut some ads that were destined for the recycling can to fit over the glass inserts to protect them from paint. 

Here it is on our little outdoor table here at the condo, with a tea light ready to be lit.

I think it’s the perfect size for this little table.  A nice refresh for not a lot of money!

Little Decorative Bread Board Makeover

I found this little decorative bread board at Goodwill several months ago and finally had a chance to give it a makeover. 

Using what I had, I painted it with a flat white paint.  I really thought it was going to take more than two coats to cover that decorative painting, but two coats seemed to do it.  I then used this image from The Graphics Fairy that I had all ready and waiting for a project.

I did the Mod Podge transfer technique to transfer it onto the board. 

This is already in my booth waiting for a new home!
