Yay! It's Friday and that means the end of a long and tiring week for me, and Frugalicious Friday, hosted by Jane of Finding Fabulous.
I almost thought I had nothing to participate with this week, but remembered that I got a pretty good price on a cake stand this past weekend. I had actually been looking for some pieces at the dollar store that I could put together and make my own, but all they had were some Christmas patterned dinner plates. I picked up two and headed to Marshalls thinking I might find something there to use as the base.
After scrutinizing each shelf I found this by accident. A plain white cake stand, which, after consideration, I realized might be a better idea because I can use it all year long for special days.
$5.00 at Marshalls! I thought that was a good price {especially since I was expecting to see $12.99 on the sticker}. Here is the plate I got at the dollar store, too. I realized after I washed everything that I might be able to use both these things together.
Have you seen this picture around blogland? I have and I love it! So simple, yet so pretty. I had also picked up something else at Marshalls . . .
Here's what I did ~ I put the decorative plate on top of the cake plate and that gave me what I wanted for my Christmas Eve table {as I want to lift some foods up and have varying heights on the table}. Then, just for kicks, I put this set of gift boxed chocolates on top. Right away I thought of that picture above!

What a wonderful idea and such a pretty decoration. I love it. I really need a white cake stand too, so now I will be on the hunt. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty

It's very pretty and I love the stacked boxes!
Love it! I may need to give that a try!
I love cake platters because they are so versatile!! This is beautiful! LOVE IT!!
Those gifts on top just set it off for the holidays! Of course, if there are chocolates inside, I would have to wrap it up TIGHT to keep myself OUT!
Have a great weekend!

Wow...what a great deal on that cake plate and you really put it to good use. I love the stacked boxes! Time to did out my cake plate.

Love the stacked boxes. I'm never one to pass up a good cake plate....or set of dishes, or flateware, or glassware...Oh well, as you can see I think we all might have a little addiction problem. Love the idea.
Great idea! Looks fantastic.

I love the stacked boxes! And I wish I'd find a cake stand for $5 at MY Marshalls!!!!!
Great job! I loved this idea the first time I saw it and I love your design as well.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stacjed boxes on the cake stand. I have yet to see that!
I just love the stacked boxes! This one I am definitely snagging! Have a great weekend.

Definitely leave up for Xmas eve. Mom and I will get a kick out of seeing it!
That looks darling, what a snag on the cake plate!

Kathy, I really like this. The poor cake stand was just sitting there all by it's lonesome and you came and added some beauty to it and now...it's perfect and happy. If I were you I would use this as a display for a buffet during the holidays. It adds height and color. It will also add texture! It has been a long week hasn't it? Why? I think I'm just tired. This would be the perfect weekend for rain. I could watch Christmas movies, comfy clothes and stay home! Have a good weekend!
How beautiful!
Hi Kathy !! Thanks so much for stopping by to visit my new blog !! I just added pictures of my holiday home tour ... please stop by and take a peek !! I'm always open to suggestions. :) Your home is beautiful, and your Christmas decorations are beautiful !! I love the garland going up your staircase, and I love your new cake stand idea ... the boxes add such a fun, whimsical touch !! I look forward to getting to know you better. Take care, Becca (adventuresindecorating1.blogspot.com)
Kathy,
I like the festive stacked boxes! They look great by themselves, but would be wonderful filled with holiday goodies. Great job!

I've been hankering for a footed cake platter and now that I've seen the terrific idea to use it without baked goods, I may just take the plunge. Thanks for that and for stopping by to see our mantels. -- Jane F.
Cute AND thrifty! You can change the plate out for every holiday/season!
What a wonderful idea! I collect antique cake plates. I might just have to pull some out and use this idea. Thanks for sharing!
Looks great! I love Marshall's and TJMaxx - where would we be without them?!!?

Couple nice scores for you! I really need to get me some more cake pedestals. Maybe I'll make a dash into my Marshall's next time I'm by there.
