The Golden Mirror

Sounds like a movie title!  I really liked this mirror when we first got it at an import warehouse several years ago.  I loved the detail and the size for over our great room fireplace.  I can’t remember if I liked the gold or not, but I lived with it for several years so I don’t think I hated it.

The problem {besides the gold} is that you can’t really see the detail, which is the nicest thing about this frame.

I didn’t want to paint the mirror black or white ~ I was kind of leaning toward brown.  Recently I saw a mirror that Kammy at Small Home In The Country did on a mirror that also had some beautiful detail {which does look a little like mine}.

Kammy

She had used Oil Rubbed Bronze and this made me more determined than ever to get myself to Home Depot and pick some up.

I also finally got some Rub N Buff {in Antique Gold at Michaels} and thought I would use that on the detailed areas to bring them out more.  This is the mirror painted with the Oil Rubbed Bronze.

Much better; but again, the detailing doesn’t really stand out.

This is the mirror with the addition of the Rub N Buff.  Being a first time user, I think I was a little heavy-handed {or heavy-fingered since you use your finger to apply it}.   I love how the details stand out now!

I love my “new” mirror and I’ll be giving a full view reveal once I get it back up on the wall over the fireplace.

That really did help all the detail to really stand out. I need to get some of the rub n buff stuff. I've seen a lot of bloggers using that. I have two mirrors I want to paint.

WOW! It turned out amazing! The gold was nice, but now it's so much more dramatic and not "ordinary". Nice job.

Boy, Kathy, you are one busy woman. How do you get so many projects done??? I want whatever it is your taking! LOL :O)

Have a great weekend!

I just donated a mirror that was identical to yours. Shucks... I wish I would have known it could have turned out like this if I worked on it. You are so talented!

The mirror looks great and this is the exact finished look I am wanting for my kitchen light fixture. I knew I had read about rub n buff on blogs before, but couldnt remember what it was called or where to get it. Thank you, thank you for posting about it and about your first experience using it!
