These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things

Ruffles and tassels, and laces and trims, these are a few of my favorite things!  But how to incorporate these into your home if you are a woman, and a woman married to a man who doesn’t want “ frou-frou” stuff all over.  This inspirational collage came from greylikesweddings blog.

Using some of the blogs I follow and others that I have come across recently, I’d like to show you ways you can incorporate a little “frou-frou” into your home without making anyone else in the house feel uncomfortable with it.

One of the lovely bloggers I follow is Sissie from Sissie’s Shabby CottageSissie loves ruffles!  This is evident from the items she has put together for home decor.  Her pillows are gorgeous; even the addition of just one to a sofa, bed or chair gives off just enough ruffley-ness!

Or what about a cotton table runner?  How perfect for your indoor or outdoor table this Summer.

Another type of ruffle and table runner is this one from Jen at Tatertots and Jello.  This runner incorporates lots of fun colors and the golden fabric of the moment ~ burlap!  If you have some scrap fabric on hand, I’ll bet you could put this together quite easily and quickly.  I love how Jen is using this on a sofa table.

What about a flirty slipcover for a plain chair; like this one from Kelly at Much To Do With Nothing.  She is a master at the art of slipcovers and the skirts she puts on them make me wish her slipcovers were dresses!  Yet the ruffles she adds to her slipcovers {whether short or long} are not over the top.

kelly This chair has now become dressed up for a dining room, a living room or bedroom accent chair, or a ladies desk/office chair.   I also like the idea of using ruffles on a smaller, accent piece ~ like a lampshade.  Which is what Sonya from Beyond the Screen Door did.

I am so glad she showed us the first application for this pretty ruffled skirt turned lampshade.   I love how this looks!  She wasn’t liking the way it looked here, but was able to incorporate it into the room anyway.

Isn’t this a great idea for a girl’s room, craft room, home office, bathroom ~ there are many ways you could use a ruffled lampshade in your home.  I also think it adds a bit of whimsy and an unexpected touch to a room.

One more something easy, ruffle project would be this great shower curtain from Robyn at Something Pretty.  Simple, not crazy with pattern or color and I think your whole house could live with something like this.

And if they can’t, these are all great ideas to use in the guinea pig guest room!  After all, that’s what it’s there for ~ to test out all these decorating ideas!

Happy Friday!!!

Funny thing, as much as I like fufu, ruffles, girly things, I don't have all that much! Love the mosaic with all the pink fufu!!!

Love them, but a little ruffle goes a long way. Happy weekend, Kathy!

Great ideas Kathy, I try to sneak in a few ruffles and girlie things but they do get noticed and I usually have to put them in the sewing room!!!
Although my ruffled shower curtain passed the test. I like the idea of the guest room!

I loved the idea you featured from Jen at Tatertots and Jello! Makes me want to run over there and follow her right now :)

I use ruffles too. I recently completed an ottomon slipcover and around the bottom I used a box-pleated burlap upholstery binding as the ruffle.

Of course, it does help if your WH doesn't notice things like ruffles, pink, feminine (as mine does!). He says he doesn't like it, but so far, he truly hasn't noticed! :)

Thank you so much for featuring me along with these super talented ladies!
What a great collection of ruffled inspiration!
Just last night I was thinking of the same title for a post! As they say...Great minds think alike!

I loved the idea you shared from Jen at Tatortots and Jello. Makes me want to run over there right now and follow her! :)

I love ruffles and use them in small places. My favorite way to incorporate them is at the bottom edges of slipcovers or in edging around a cushion. My favorite ruffle is the box-pleat. I love using burlap upholstery webbing and box-pleating it around slipcovers for ottomons and such. Reminds me of a french grain sack.

Fun post, and inspirational. As always!

Hey Kathy~It's been a tough task to tackle...keeping the estrogen balance in my home having raised team testosterone which hubby thrived upon doing. I've somehow managed to make it (more than) obvious a woman has decorated this home with A-L-L the Waverly flowers and frou-frou. "Go team estrogen, lol!"

FYI...I'm still very envious of your GW ironstone soup tureen. I'm always on the hunt for them.

Sweet wishes,

A lot less frou around here these days. But a little ruffle is always pretty.

Have a great weekend Kathy!

I love Kelly's ruffle chair! And that shower curtain is kind of like the one I got from Target. Urban Outfitters has some really great ruffled sheets, etc.!

Hi Kathy,
The box you are making sounds like it will be AMAZING! I just finished making an open book and I do box lids alot....They are a treasure, indeed, and yours will be a wonderful keepsake.

I have 2 little granddaughters and I make personal things for them all the time...I just never have time to post them!

I just wanted to wish you luck with your box...Oh, one more thing--I started using lace on alot of things and that has a pretty affect too.

I love your blog!!!!
