Shelf For The Bathroom

This is kind of a combination post, showing a couple of little treasures I found this past week at an antique mart, as well as the makeover of the shelf I got at the local antique and flea mart for $25.00.

I decided to use the free quart of paint I got from Ace in Oyster Pearl to paint it.  This is a very light grey.  I took some pictures before it goes into the bathroom because the light is not good in there.  I will be editing the brightness on those pictures.

I used some Old White and then some Paris Grey to dry brush over the flower part  on top of the Oyster Pearl, just to give it a little more depth and interest.   I used a clear wax over the whole piece and did dark wax over the floral.

I used some of the Paris Grey along the detailed edge of the top by the flower and then dry brushed it near the detailed side pieces. I also did a quick dry brush over the curved edge of each shelf.

I wanted to try and use what I have to accessorize it, but I was “feeling” silver and I don’t have much silver.  Beware ~ apparently, I either stand crooked, hold the camera crooked or something is crooked, but the shelf is perfectly level and is not hanging crooked!  Also, if the lighting looks freakish, it’s because I had to play with the brightness and contrast to get them to not look so dark.

I did use a couple of the pieces I won from Rosemary at Villabarnes.

I also found a couple of small pieces while out with my friend, Sue from Sullivan and Murphy.  The sweet little creamer, which not only has this great patina to it, but there is a delicate little pattern on the handle, around the top rim and the bottom rim as well.

I left this one alone, except for adding the nest and eggs to the top and the bird tag.

The second piece I did clean up with my silver polish because I thought this one would look better shiny.  Here it is before.

Here it is after.

I added a few bits of faux flowers and ivy, which I stuck in a small styrofoam ball {which fit perfectly in this piece} and then topped it off with some moss.

I think one or two  more little things and the accessorizing of this shelf piece will be complete.

I have a little Springifying I want to do in here also with a new {clearance} shower curtain and a new bath mat.   I’ll share that with you later in the week!

Kath- the shelf turned out great~ Love that you did some dry brushing on it to enhance it a bit. LOL- just fix the photo in Picasa, silly, with the little straightening tool. You're NOT a bit "off" at all! ha ha
Thanks for the shout-out. We had fun and I think the "chalice" looks better all shined up. (Think Sunday mass! But there are too many germs for ME to use a communal cup!)

Love the new color. Yahoo for free paint! A girl can never have too much paint. I haven't used mine yet. You inspired me with your silver pieces. I have some similar.

That is such an adorable shelf, Kathy! It looks great in your bathroom.

I know what you mean about the trouble with your images of the bathroom. One of the reasons I don't post much from INSIDE the cottage is because all the trees around it make it dark and hard to photograph.

Have a wonderful night!
