Chalkboard Makeover

Any time I can find a chalkboard and just repaint the frame, I’ll take it!  That was the case with this chalkboard I found at our community garage sale a couple of weeks ago.

I liked the checks on the side of the chalkboard and I thought the overall shape was great.  For $5.00 it came home with me.  I gave it two coats of Old White chalk paint.

I purchased a wood wreath applique, since that top space seemed to be calling out for something.  I painted it black and attached it to the top portion of the chalkboard.  After applying a clear and dark wax to the whole piece, I then added some Antique Gold Rub n Buff to the detailed areas of the wreath.

I love its new updated look!  Hopefully, someone else will, too, because it’s going to my booth!

A huuuge improvement, Kathy! Lucky find- I never find chalkboards to redo. I end up having to make my own. The wood applique looks like it always belonged there. :)

This is just wonderful, Kathy! I LOVE chalkboards, but my family has told me "no more!" :-) You did a perfect job from start to finish. I'll bet this will be snatched up in no time!

Have a great week!

Kathy I was helping set-up for our Bible Study luncheon when I got a brain storm. I was at a store and they had picture frames marked down to $1.00. I had my husband look them over and sure enough the backs were not cardboard! So I grabbed 2 and went home and took out the glass an sprayed the holder part with spray chalk board paint. Attached it to the frame and I went on line for french word for Spring Brunch. So I wrote it out in french ( was not the theme of our brunch) and put it on the table where the ladies sign their name tags. I was at the thrift store and my wm lady shared we would be using a smaller table. Idid not know the size so I made a table cloth from the great find I found. 4 1/2 yards of laura ashley fabric pattern english country for $2.40. The table they used was bigger than my cloth so I put a plastic under it and used my cloth as a topper.I had a floral tray with birds and put a crystal bowl and name tags in there. I then took a brown paper bag and folded the top over. I took a stamp with the Eiffel Tower and Paris on it and stamped the front of the sack to put backings from the tags in there. Worked out great.
