Christmas Mantel 2011

DSC04240_3502

The fireplace mantel in our new place had me stumped this year.  Part of the problem is that I’m trying to decorate it like the two larger mantels I had in my old house.  This mantel is smaller and narrower.   I have redone this mantel three times and that’s it; I’m done. No more futzing with it!

The most recent addition was the beaded garland that I found in one of my bins. I’ve also decided to bring in some things that are not quite as big as what I’ve used in past Christmases ~ like these bottle brush trees that I bleached here

I also included one that I bought from Becky at Junk to Joy.  Love the one she did!

I added my Lladro Christmas tree, and the boy and girl that go with it, on the other side.  I had no other surface to really put it on, plus I need to keep them out of reach of little hands.

So that’s me this year!  I’m hoping to pick up some inspiration for next year though, because I’m not touching this mantel again until January, when everything gets put away!

Okay let me try this again - my other post disappeared when I hit post comment. I was laughing b/c I do the same thing when I've had to re-arrange something a few times. That's it, I'm done! =) Your mantel looks great and I can't tell that it's that much smaller from the NY ones.

Hi Kathy! Your mantle is gorgeous! I love the way you've hung your garland and the beads so just make it. The little tree and children is so adorable! You've done a wonderful job!
Be a sweetie,

It looks good, Kathy! It is hard to adjust to a new scale. When we moved here from Huntington, it was a bigger house, but less areas to decorate! I had to readjust my thinking. And we have a double mantel here, so that is a challenge. I always put one of my Nativity sets there, so it stays the same every year.
Anyway, it looks very festive in your new home!

Ha ha, seriously, Kathy, your mantel is lovely. I go through this all the time as our "mantel" if even narrower than yours and I am very limited on what I can do!

Kathy, this is beautiful and traditional. I love the shot with the tree by the fireplace. I love that look. So cozy. I wish I could put the tree by our fireplace, but no room.

It looks wonderful Kathy! I love those bottle trees...they are the perfect touch! When I moved 6 years ago, it did take me a while to get my seasonal decorating the way I wanted! At first I tried to decorate my new house exactly like my old and it wasn't working for me. So I just had to start from scratch and look at everything with 'new' eyes! It comes with time! Angie xo

I absolutely love the way you decorated with those beads under the mantel top while decorating it too. I have never thought about doing that, and now I want to.

I'm totally loving your bottle brush trees, Kathy. It makes me want a collection, but after I dug through my bins this year, I told myself "no more Christmas decor!"
