Forcing Spring

SONY DSC

It seems like Spring is taking its time here in Ohio.  There’s the odd crocus blooming here and there, but just a hint of yellow where daffodils will be in full glory soon (I hope).  The weather this week seems to be more consistently above 55 degrees and the grass is greening up a bit.  It’s taking a bit too long for my liking to fully arrive though!

When I went food shopping last night, I stopped at the stands they had set up outside with flowers.  I couldn’t take it anymore, so I bought two Martha Washington geraniums, a $5.00 pot of pansies for my outdoor table, and a purple tulip for my dining room table.

If Spring won’t give me flowers naturally, I will just have to bring it to my front door.  Literally!

I will restrain myself for the next month and wait until the last frost before I buy any plants for the beds.

I think this will hold me over for now!  Have you bought any plants yet?

I'm with you on the weather my friend. Spring is taking forever to get here. Now I fear it will go from this to summer. I don't want everything to bloom at once. I enjoy seeing it in bits and pieces. This will be the first time in 20 years I can plant pansies with no animal problems

Beautiful Martha Washington geraniums! We're warming here too but it will be a while before I could trust the nighttime temps not to fall too far below 32. Isn't it fabulous to watch spring come alive outside!

I am jealous. We can't put anything outside yet until after Memorial Day. Otherwise, there is a danger of it freezing. xo Diana

No I haven't Kathy, but I'm wanting too really badly! The pollen is so thick here right now that everything is covered with it. My allergies just won't let me outside until it clears a bit, so I'll just wait. Love your pops of color on your porch.

Happy Easter.

Hi Kathy, your porch is so pretty and springy with the geraniums and pansies.
We are all planted here and our pansies are about done as it gets hotter. They don't like the heat. The rest is blooming and it has been so much fun to work outside again in the garden. I hope your days warm up soon and you can do the same.
Wishing you a Blessed Easter.
Hugs, CM

Well, I'm glad you forced Spring on your porch, because they're beautiful! Such pretty colors and so welcoming ... I'm sure Mother Nature will now follow your lead up there in OH! Happy Easter!

What lovely flowers. Spring is springing here, today in the 80's tomorrow the 50's LOL. I wish I had flowers but my two munchkins decided they would look better in their hands. Lovely post.

I have not done any planting to make our home say spring. I am motivated to do so now, your porch looks great. Happy Spring.

They're lovely, Kathy! Spring is an interesting time here. Temps from the 30s to 60s. Rain or snow. High winds. So bringing flowers in is such a treat!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hopefully that will be the kick in the pants spring needs! Just got back from Hershey and it was nearly 70 there on Thursday. Back to the cold when we left this morning. =(

Forcing Spring is a great idea especially for those of us who live in colder climates. I love Martha Washington geraniums, I have pink ones I got in TN when hubs parents lived there. Your porch looks Springy!
