A recent trip to an antique mall netted me this great wood magazine rack. While I love pink, this piece will be getting a makeover.
I’ve been looking for a piece to transform {basically copy} to this tote/magazine rack from Ballard Designs.
This one fit the criteria and I like it even better because it has feet, plus I think it’s a little bigger. Since I already had Rustoleum black satin spray paint I used that to paint it.
Then I needed to figure out the graphic. I decided to go with a stencil and found these two at Artistic Stencils on Etsy. I couldn’t decide which one to do, so I did both! One on each side!
I had to make an adjustment for using the second stencil because it was too long. I used the same flat white paint that I used on my bathroom wall stencil here and applied it with a small foam roller.
Love it!
I think it makes a nice addition to my living room and I can keep it beside my chair with my magazines just inches away!
This little box was the other thing I got that day.
I don’t think he warrants his own post, so I’ll just show you his new look here.
Just a quick spray of Oil Rubbed Bronze to freshen him up and some wood embellishments sprayed Heirloom White.
I think he does a fine job of corralling our remotes!

Kathy, your magazine rack looks great! I love getting inspiration from catalogs like Ballard's--but I especially love it when a creative, resourceful blogger shows what's she's already done! It's inspirational to see what can be done with some hard work and creativity.

This is my first time to your blog, but found you at DIY by Design link party.
I LOVE what you did with your magazine rack! I just bought one at a church sale a few weeks ago for 50 cents and I'm looking for some inspiration. I thought about doing vintage white, but I do really like your black version! That little box is darling too. Love the carved wooden pieces. I recently used those on a project myself.
This turned out great! I also need one of those I have magazines all over my house. I think I need 2 one for me and one for my husband. I am now going to be on the lookout.
Just awesome my dear friend..Love the way it looks in your LR..May you have the BEST Mother's day every girl..Hugs and smiles Gloria
