A Non-invitation To A Non-event?

Yesterday I received a non-invitation to The First Annual Non-Event Garden Party (not) hosted by the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. I started to feel like the kid in gym class being picked last for dodgeball. Until I opened it up.

Inside is a list of donation levels: $10-20 "I will NOT attend"; $25-45 "My companion and I will NOT attend" and so on down to $250 & over "I will keep everyone in town away or will NOT email everyone I know to attend".

Cute and a very clever mailing, which included a packet of Forget-Me-Not seeds!

This is from the inside of the invitation and the website:

"Feel good about not attending. No need to dress up, attend the party or listen to speeches. Just put on your most comfortable clothes and go about your day.

We do kindly request a donation for the privilege of not attending. All donations are 100% percent tax deductible.

In gratitude for your donation, DIFFA will send you Seeds of Remembrance. Plant the Forget-Me-Not flowers as an everyday reminder of those who have passed away and those that are still living."

I like to see out-of-the box ideas from different people and organizations, which I might be able to tailor to my business and help me reach out to new clientele. Marketing your own business is crucial to obtaining new customers, clients or patrons. Sometimes these creative ideas work, sometimes not. I like this idea of DIFFA's and I hope it works for them.

This non-party idea is a great idea- esp. for those who don't enjoy small talk and schmoozing!

Kimberly ~ Exactly! Me too - something different!

Carma ~ I wonder how many people will call up and ask where it is? : )

Hi Kristen! I can afford not to attend! : )

That's pretty clever :-) Much easier to just send a cheque than look for an outfit and organize your schedule and try to find parking!! ;-)

I guess that's what they were thinking, Kelly. Plus, how many people would actually show up to an event.

I love to see people thinking "out of the box" and using humor. And since so many of us are pressed for time, I bet they get record support with this mailing.
