Fussing With My Florals

Usually when the seasons change, I like to change out my floral arrangements.  I am due for a new one for my dining room table, and as I had these two pots that my daughter had given me for Mother’s Day, I decided to use them.

I went to Michaels and bought duplicates of each floral stem, as well as different sizes.

Some moss to cover the styrofoam bases.

I approached this project one pot at a time and, after cutting the styrofoam to fit inside one of the pots, I started adding florals.   I realized something as I thought I was done.  I never buy enough to make a really full arrangement!  All the florals I bought for two arrangements were good for one!

IMG_6750_3620So I started to add the second grouping of florals to the pot that I was working on.  And I have to say that I liked it better!

IMG_6756_3621I think that from now on, when I am buying florals to put together my own arrangement, I will get what I think I need, then go back down the aisle and get another handful.   This will give me the fuller arrangements that are not only what I like, but that look better.  No wonder I am always fussing with my florals!

So if you find that you are not happy with the arrangements you put together yourself, maybe you just need to put a few more floral stems in.  Maybe you are short-changing your arrangements like I was.  Give it a try and see if you change your mind.

Don’t forget to enter my current giveaway for a blog design here.   Giveaway ends Friday, August 27th!

Kathy great tips . I have done the same thing and unless you want a focus on an orchid for example.... adding in some twiggy pieces or an unusual visual like artichokes will look great!

What a lovely arrangement, Kathy!

Funny thing I don't have any florals in my house, well, that's not true, very few. It's not that I don't like them, I just never think of them.

The other day our neighbor gave me some roses from his yard (he has LOTS of rose bushes) and I put them in a pilsner glass which makes a PERFECT bud vase.

Have to tell you the story about the pilsner glass. Remember my impromptu garage sale? Well, I have a wood tray with three pilsner glasses and a bowl for peanuts. I put that out there. A guy came by and we were joking around that I had some sets of 3 of a couple of things b/c the 4th one broke. He made the comment that the pilsner glass would make a great bud vase and he was right!

Whew, this is a long comment!

Your arrangement looks fabulous. I so agree, it takes a ton of stems to make a really full and lovely arrangement. I am always amazed too. Yours look gorgeous. Hugs, Marty

it's beautiful, Kathy. This is the time of year I like to start playing with the silk flowers because the real ones are fading fast. My problem is over buying and then I have a bunch of extra mismatched flowers!

Stop by...I'm having a giveaway! ;-D

You are so good with arrangements. I like how full it looks and the proportions are great! The colors are great and I am impressed that you change them out fairly often. Arrangements intimidate me!!

Kathy, Your arrangement is beautiful! For some reason I've never mastered the art of floral arrangements!
You make it look so simple!
Ask me to put that many fabrics together...DONE! Ask me to put that many floral stems together...I struggle.
Thanks for the tips and hints!
Beautiful job!
