French Bread Board

I found two bread boards at Goodwill last week.  I don’t see them there very often so I grabbed both of them.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take any before pictures of this one, but I will make sure I get one of the second one.  I decided to try out the Mod Podge transfer method again.  My first try a year or so ago wasn’t very successful, but I think it’s because I didn’t let it dry overnight.

I used this great grain sack image from Karen at The Graphics Fairy.  My sister, Jeanine over at Okio B Designs, just used the same image and transfer method on her own Goodwill find.  I printed out several images when I was going to the library last month and copied them on the copier at the library.

Some ASCP French Linen is the base.  Because this was a somewhat dark board, and had an owl painted in the middle, it took three coats.  I waited between 24-48 hours after painting and then, using the reverse printed version of the above image, applied Mod Podge and attached it to the board.  Smoothing it down and letting it dry overnight.

The above pictures show that I still have a little more cleaning up to do, because I can still see some glue residue. 

After resorting to using my finger, I think I got it as good as it’s going to get!   Otherwise I’m afraid I’m going to remove too much of the image.  I added a bit of twine to the top for a hanger and as soon as I get a hook, it will be getting hung up not far from where it is sitting here.

I had originally thought I would put it in my Etsy shop, but I just love the way it turned out too much!  Maybe the second one!

Silverware Holder

While I debate what project I want to start next {and wait on some paint and other supplies}, I found I had a few of these utensil transfers I previously printed off that Debbie from Confessions of a Plate Addict had shared. 

Debbie did tea towels with hers and they came out great.  The silverware part of the graphic is from The Graphics Fairy.  I decided to use the graphic to make silverware holders.  I took a scrap of Osnaberg fabric and played around with the lay-out, using a fork, knife and spoon for sizing.  Once I had a size I was happy with, I sewed up one end and the one long side.  {I cut the fabric folded over so I saved sewing one of the long sides}.  Turn so that the seam is on the inside.

I ironed it at this point and then brought my bottom end up for the pocket.  I cut the fabric so I would have this lovely fringed selvage end for the pocket top.

Once I sewed the pocket, I did the iron on transfer.

All set to grace the table!

This was a very quick and easy project.  If you don’t sew, try fabric glue or iron-on hem tape.

Mad Tea Party ~ 2012

My daughter, granddaughter and I are joining in again this year with Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist for her Mad Tea Party.  Thank you, Vanessa, for hosting such a fun event that allows three generations to all be little girls!

Once upon a time, there was a little girl.  She was a very special little girl with a head full of dreams.  One night, after she had fallen fast asleep, and the house lay quiet, she began to dream of a story her mother had told her.

It was full of tea parties and Hatters, Hares and tasty cakes.

Now, when a child dreams, they sparkle and glow.  And this sparkle and glow sometimes attracts fairies.

One particular fairy saw the glow of innocence and fabulous dreams, and slipped in through the window. 

With a wave of her wand, she used her magic to bring an enchanting party to life.

Soon the clatter of teacups on saucers and the murmur of voices woke the little girl.

She sat up in her bed and couldn’t believe her eyes!  Her dolls were having a tea party right in her room! It was so much like her dream. 

She sat at the table with the dolls and laughed and smiled as they ate delicious cakes and drank magical tea that tasted of peaches and rose hips.

“You should come to the palace and play croquet”, the Red Queen invited, but the little girl knew better. 

She also knew what happened to people that upset the Red Queen!  So she said, “maybe” and stuffed her mouth full of tarts and cakes to avoid having to answer further.

The fairy sat atop the bookcase, watching the whole show and giggling cheerily.  Until finally, the small party ran out of tea and cakes.  The fairy waved her magic wand and the dolls went back to being stuffed, and that’s when the little girl noticed the fairy. 

She smiled and waved, and the fairy floated down from her perch to land on the table beside the teacups.

“Thank you for the party”, the little girl said to the fairy.  The fairy just smiled, curtsied and fluttered her little wings as she took off and drifted out of the window.

The little girl yawned and crawled back into bed.  The next day she woke up to find her tea table a mess.  Filled with crumbs and fairy dust.

She smiled at the memory and went in search of her mother so she could clean up the mess.

Looking For Ideas

My husband was going to throw this metal suitcase out!

I have no idea what it held, but except for a few dings here and there, it is clean inside and has all these great dividers, and the closures work.  I grabbed it knowing I could make it over.

I have an idea to cover the inside with fabric and make fabric sleeves for these removable dividers. 

I thought it would make a cute suitcase for my granddaughter.  I was thinking of putting “Going to LaLa’s House” on the outside; and that’s where my ideas stop.

Could it be as simple as just spray painting it with some Heirloom White?  I was looking for some ideas on Pinterest, but didn’t see anything that grabbed me.  I searched under “suitcase makeovers”.  Most of the vintage suitcases that come up are painted.   So, I’m looking for ideas from your creative minds.  Have at it!

Summer Giveaway

Just a quick Summer giveaway from moi to my followers!  I found some things that were too cute to pass up and thought they would make for a nice little giveaway.

First up is this blue giant clothes pin.  Great for holding notes on your desk, counter or craft table. 

I also found these blue pails.  The same color as the clothes pin.  They are attached and have this great wooden handle in the middle. 

A two-pack of notepads with pen.  They have the magnet on the back so you can hang them on your refrigerator.  I usually have a pad in our junk drawer and one on the counter in the laundry room {where I make my craft/sewing supply list}.  I always like to have a pretty pad or two around to jot quick notes down.

A second small pad and flag set from Paula Deen; great for flagging or making notes for your cookbooks or those magazine pictures that provide inspiration.

A set of Paula Deen’s cupcake papers.  Such a pretty design.  They are sitting on top of a candle in this very pretty tin.  The scent is subtle and not overpowering at all.  When it’s used up, you could use the tin for storing small things.

Finally, one of my new Harvest Time tea towels for Fall.  These are also in my Etsy shop. 

Plus a few other little goodies that I’m sure I’ll throw in!
