The Artist Behind The Etsy ~ Cherry’s Jubilee

 Being a part of the Etsy community, not only as a seller but as a customer, I have come across many talented individuals.  With this series, I hope to introduce you to some of these creative people, finding out where they find their inspiration, and a little bit more about them.

Good morning, everyone!  This morning I am welcoming Cherry from Cherry’s Jubilee.  Cherry makes wonderful and heart warming items with a vintage feel.  I know you will enjoy visiting Cherry’s shop just as much as I do!

I have loved pretty paper and scissors from an early age. Starting with Paper villages and dolls...cutting for hours and assembling my little villages. Things really have not changed much from then.

Starting my blog in 2006, I first shared my decorating and home projects. I found myself creating again with paper. Little pumpkin head boxes and altered art.

My blog visitors kept asking when I would start selling my goods. Etsy was a natural fit. I have never looked back. I love being in my own little world. Quiet and serene. As in my home, I gravitate towards the old. Anything with a sense of history inspires me. I love to combine the old and new....both with a vintage appeal.

My art always has a bit of added whimsy. My hope is that it brings a smile to the recipient. I imagine someone years from now unwrapping an ornament I have made and still loving it...passing it on to the next generation. Standing the test of time.

It’s Cold!

It may not be Winter by the calendar, but it certainly feels like it with the frigid temps and wind!  This poem pretty much says it all about the weather in Ohio right now.

I’ve had the fireplace on and the electric blanket at night!  With an unplanned day off from work today, I think I will bring the tree down from the attic and get it set up.

I usually set the tree up in front of the window in the living room.  I like the way it looks next to the fireplace, but I do wind up having to move that furniture out and over to make room.  There’s a corner in the sunroom that might work, too. Maybe we’ll change it up this year!

While I usually wait until Friday to start my Christmas decorating, I am working Friday, so I think I could use a head start.  Although, I like to think I have a head start already with some presents hidden away and more “in transit”.

Meanwhile, let’s enjoy the current holiday.  I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving, enjoying time spent with family, friends and food! 

The Artist Behind The Etsy ~ Laughter & Lemon Drops

Being a part of the Etsy community, not only as a seller but as a customer, I have come across many talented individuals.  With this series, I hope to introduce you to some of these creative people, finding out where they find their inspiration, and a little bit more about them.

This week’s artist has been very busy working on custom orders.  Especially at this time of year.  I think you will understand why once you take a look at her creations.  A visit to Caroline’s Etsy shop, Laughter and Lemon Drops is like being a kid in a candy store!

My passion is creating one of a kind pieces derived from bits and pieces of unique vintage treasures I’ve picked up in my travels over the years. I have so much fun taking old items and bringing new life to them.

My newest items include vintage inspired putz houses and vintage inspired decorated bottle brush trees. My Vintage inspired bottle brush tree arrangements include vintage ornaments and vintage pottery planters that I've collected over the years.

I also love to create pins out of vintage yo yo pieces from grandmothers quilts that were left unfinished, cocktail rings designed from clip on earrings found in jewelry boxes that are no longer worn (but too pretty not to wear), headbands embellished with lace, flowers, buttons and feathers.

Altered Altoid Tin Christmas Craft

While I’m not decorating for Christmas yet, I have been itching to get started on some Christmas crafts.  To digress for a moment, I’ve been in a funk for quite a while and, to keep myself from napping as a part of that funk, yesterday afternoon I decided to pull out some supplies I have in my craft room to make a few things.

I took an empty Altoid tin from my stash that I didn’t paint, because the red works for Christmas. 

I also grabbed a Christmas scrapbook pad, a small bottle brush tree, a mini penguin, some glue, and a couple of other odds and ends.  After tracing my papers for the tin, I laid everything out before gluing to make sure how I wanted this to look.  I used a blue and white snowflake paper as my interior background.

I added a punch-out snowman from the same scrapbook pad to add some interest and another layer to the background. This pad also had ready-cut strips that I was able to use to line the inside of the tin.

On top of that I used Merry Christmas text (also from the same pad) but I put that on some foam tape to give it a little more dimension.

I did the front of the tin before I put the tree and penguin in.  For that I used a different paper I had with ornaments, but that had the same blue as the interior paper.  I used a little tag I had with a clear snowflake embellishment.

I also had the thin Christmas ribbon and added that to the outside rim of the tin.  I used Aleene’s Craft Glue for everything except the penguin, tree and beads I added to the tree. I used hot glue on those.

I love this package of little penguins I picked up.  I am a fan of the Penguins of Madagascar, which is what I think of when I see this little guy.  Can’t wait to see their new movie!  These penguins will be back for another project I have in the works, too.
