Gladioli

What’s the plural of gladiola anyway?  Is it gladioli, gladiolus?  I got a coupon for a bunch of 10 for $2.99 at our local grocery store.  They had the same coupon last year, and I’ve made sure to print it out and get them before the coupon expired, both last year and this year.

This year I went with a pinky purple. The other options were a red/orange, a white, and a dark ruby red color.  I don’t often buy fresh flowers for myself, but at $2.99 it was a treat I couldn’t pass up.

I was going to go with the red/orange for summer color in the house, but when I saw these pinky purple ones hadn’t quite flowered yet, I thought they might last me a little bit longer than the others, which were already all in flower.  These were all furled up buds the day I bought them.   These pictures are two days later.

Here is a picture of them in full bloom from Wikipedia.

A pretty summer flower for a summer day!  It came just when I needed a small dose of happiness, too.

They are happy flowers. When I lived in Florida years ago, between Ft. Myers and Ft. Myers Beach there was a gladiolus farm that went on for miles.

They are so beautiful and old fashioned. I tried growing them before. Have you? They are easy but they fall over because they are tall and top heavy. $2.99 at the grocery sounds like a plan to me. :)

Have a great day!

Hi Kathy, Your Glads are gorgeous. The color is so pretty for summer. You sure got them at a great price and it looks like they brought you great joy.

Thanks for stopping by. The pasta I used was a corn based and I am finding it better then the rice variety.
Have a great day

Hi Kath, yes they are gorgeous!

My Mom's name was Gladys and I always called her Gladiola. It always made her smile. She always said she prefers that to what her 2 older sisters called her: Happy Bottom...get it? Glad @ss? Gladys.
Poor Mom.

Anyway this is a flower I don't have but my younger daugher does and it is her fav. It is a sweet summer flower and sure looks nice cut, huh?

Hey, write me and tell me why you are blue. Maybe I can talk you into visiting me. I am only 2 hours away!!! Hugs.

They are beautiful. When I was a kid we had a gladiola farm in our town. They raise them to sell the blubs. When they were blooming, the farm would have a sale where you went in and picked your own bouquet. I always looked forward to that time of year :)

Pretty color. They always remind me of funeral flowers. That's where you always see them. Have a good evening.

Your Glads are lovely! That's my way around fingering out the plural of Gladiola. What a fabulous deal; I would have brought them home too. They are one of my favorite late summer flowers!

I used to grow gladiolas (gladioli?) in my yard and loved to bring them inside. What a great price for gorgeous flowers!

So pretty! Those and Snapdragons are at the top of my favorite flower list. Amazing what flowers can do to brighten up a room, right?
