Living Room Drapes And Then Some

Before my previous drapery post even posted, my new drapes from Ballard Designs arrived.  I can’t believe how quick that was and then I found out from a fellow blogger {also named Kathleen, from Décor Amore, and also living in Ohio} that I have a Ballard outlet about half an hour away from me!  Checking the return address on the box, sure enough, it shipped from the Ballard’s in Ohio!

The picture on the website leads you to believe that these are black and white, but luckily I read the reviews.  Not only was it a plus that everyone loved them, but that they mentioned that the “white” is actually a linen color {actually looks like the Osnaberg fabric I used on my stenciled stool that you can just see in the picture below}.  Here is the “before” with no drapes yet.

I think they work better in my living room than if it had been white.  Here’s the after.

I have moved this furniture around three times already.  Hubby actually said he liked the way the living room was set up and didn’t want to ruin it by having the television in here!  As of last weekend, the television is now in the sunroom.  That prompted a trip to the store to get a television stand and two chairs.  I also had to move the one bookcase over to the other wall next to the second.  It looks fine there and, even though I wasn’t expecting to use the sunroom as a TV room, it works.

We got a good enough deal on the chairs at Lazy Boy ~ $388.00 each on clearance.  That was after looking at chair after chair with price ranges from $499.00 up to $849.00.   And those were the ones on sale for Columbus Day!

Very soft and comfortable.  I knew they passed the test when I saw hubby falling asleep in his the night we brought them home, while watching the football game.

I found ottomans to go with them on the World Market website; $40.00 {each} for the ottoman and $39.00 for the slipcover.   They have a variety of slipcover colors.  

Even when I think I’m done with a room, apparently, I’m not!  I have an idea for drapes in here that will require me to modify some I already have that are too short.

Kitchen Is Coming Along

Thanks so much for your input on my kitchen with the high ledge.  I feel like the ledge shouldn’t be ignored and when I was in Hobby Lobby I did see some large size pieces that may work.  If I put a few substantial pieces up there, it will look better and be easier to deal with {cleaning} than several smaller size pieces.  Meanwhile, I added my three faux greenery pieces to the tops of the cabinets.

This picture just shows two; the third is behind me.  I also brought out my bunny tray {in my living room at the old house} and a metal grill {formerly dining room}.  I stuck a fairly large topiary piece up there just to see how it looked and since it is out of the way at the moment, I left it there until I find something better.

I added this great cake stand that I got from One Kings Lane a few months ago to the top of the refrigerator with some herb labeled pots that I’ve had for awhile now.  That cabinet is so ridiculously far back, I can’t see ever using it, so I’m okay with putting accessories in front of it.

I also worked on the cabinet with the glass doors.  I added my white pieces.  Not as many as I thought I had, but I’m sure I’ll be adding to it over time!

Then added in some Beatrix Potter figurines.  I also found two battery operated string lights that I will be able to use at night.

I’m thinking of using three of the sandwich plates that are part of my white set of everyday dishes on plate stands in the middle of each shelf.  Just to make it stand out more; the back looks pretty bland.

My favorite addition so far is adding this scrolly metal piece {that was in my living room in the other house} over the kitchen door leading to the pantry, laundry and garage.

We still need to get the lighting to go underneath the cabinets.  Having no window in here makes that a must.  I took these pictures just using the overhead lighting, plus it is cloudy and raining here today.  The perfect trifecta for crappy pictures!  Hopefully, I’ll get some better ones in the future.

The Bathrooms

We made a trip to Target a few days after we arrived in Ohio and the first rooms we bought for were the bathrooms.  The colors in the new place don’t work with the existing stuff I had.   I don’t think I have a before of the master bathroom, but here’s a before of the main bathroom.

It is a light blue gray and it is right across from the guest room.  It seems the previous owner was color coordinating them since the guest bedroom is a darker blue gray {like a slate gray}.  It felt kind of masculine to me, so I went with it.    You could, of course, go with white or light grey, too, but this is what “spoke” to me at the time.

Not my first choice, but I’m trying to even out the decorating between my husband and I by not going all creamy, ruffled or feminine with the décor in every room.  I think I can give over a little bit in a bathroom!  Still  need a picture or two in here, but I didn’t have any existing pictures or wall décor that will work in here. 

Here’s the master bathroom.  I hung up three of my wild grass prints in the bamboo frames.  I previously had these in my master bedroom in our old house.  That door leads to the closet.

I was trying to work with the floor tile in both these bathrooms.  It seems she had tile with gray involved put down wherever she had tile. 

I may wind up changing the master bath look as time goes on, because I’m really not feeling the stripes and I think having it in one of the bathrooms is enough.  What do you think?

I still would like to try the Mirror Mates on these mirrors, too.  Maybe do the hanging the empty frame thing in the middle where the vanity section is, to break up the long expanse of mirror.

Oops, I added a picture to the bathroom after I did this post.

I had this one in my powder room in the other house and I thought the colors worked well in here.  Now I just need something for this wall.

I moved the plunger/toilet brush you see here and put a stool there for now.  It will need to be painted as it is antique white with a crackle finish.

Night Time Perspective

I was sitting in our sunroom the other night watching television and, when I looked up from my chair, saw this.

Stuff on the floor and countertops, but I still liked what I was seeing.

This is our home and we are slowly but surely putting our stamp on it.

New Drapes and My First Hob Lob Visit

Wednesday, my daughter and I went out to get some fresh air and decided to check out Hobby Lobby.  Believe it or not, neither one of us spent a penny there!  It was more of a “let’s look and see” mission since they don’t have Hobby Lobby in New York.  The good news ~ I think I found some things that might work for that ledge in my kitchen that I showed you here.  Large pieces that will fill the space nicely, I think.  

Meanwhile, I am {almost} ashamed to say that I took the easy way out and I did order these drapes from Ballard Designs for my living room.  I was able to use two sets of drapes from my old house in the new place, but needed something different for the living room and master bedroom.  These pictured above will be for the living room. 

These will be for the master bedroom and are from Pottery Barn.  Hopefully, my next post will not have one box pictured in it, unless it is purely decorative!   I’m going to try and clean this place up so I can show you some rooms this coming week.
