Ballard Designs Shadowbox My Way

When I got the latest Ballard Design’s catalog and looked through it, there were two things I marked as projects I’d like to try making.  The first one that really grabbed me was this pair of shadowboxes for $269.00 called Document Shadowboxes.

A couple of days after that Debbie at Debbiedoos announced her next Copycat Challenge party, so I felt it was meant to be!  I already knew that I would be cutting into my current 2012 Cavallini calendar to utilize for this project {note to self: do not buy calendars with really pretty pictures, to use as calendars, unless you pick up two!}

Off to Hobby Lobby I went to get a couple of shadowbox frames.  I got two 10x13 shadowbox frames and these were the only purchase I had to  make for this project.  I printed out postcard graphics that I had saved to my computer from The Graphics Fairy {this is one of them below}.

I used some Osnaberg fabric on the backing because the frame is a little bigger than the calendar images. I took the calendar pages {I tried to just stick with the months that passed already} and cut them for the shadowbox frame.  I applied the calendar pages with regular craft glue.  Then I used those foam adhesive pieces {found in the scrapbooking aisles} and placed my postcards.  This gives them a more dimensional look, like the inspiration pieces.

The dragonfly and bee shown in the Ballard’s picture are decorative tacks/pushpins.  While I could have found some kind of charms and glued them to pushpins, I found these butterflies a few weeks ago in the Michael’s dollar bin and decided to use these.

I hung them in our master bedroom above each side table.

I’d show you the whole area, but the bed has a pile of whites on it waiting to be folded and put away.

That’s my version of the Ballard Design’s Document Shadowboxes; mine cost me around $30.00 and I only had to purchase the shadowboxes.

A Picnic In The Park

We had a beautiful day here on Thursday; temps in the 70’s, a light breeze and sunshine.  It was a perfect day to take the daughter and granddaughter to one of the nearby parks and I decided to pack us a picnic!

I don’t have an actual picnic basket, so I used this basket with a handle that I do have.  I layered in a couple of new towels to pretty it up a bit.

After seeing my friend, Angie’s, recent picnic basket that she did for her and a friend to enjoy, I picked up some of these glassine bags for our sandwiches and used some pink raffia to tie them closed.

A couple of bottles of water {and a sippy cup of water for the baby}, some chips, gluten free pretzels, the baby’s favorite ~ strawberries, some baby carrots and our meal was complete.

I also added in a couple of the paper plates and napkins I recently picked up on clearance from Christmas Tree Shops.  We played before we ate.

What Time Is It?

Well, you wouldn’t know if you had this clock! I guess this is why it was donated to Goodwill.  No hands and no actual mechanism on the back.

DSC06868_5923

I saw some potential in this piece and I liked the clock portion at the top.  I was seeing either a chalkboard or memo board where the Irish prayer is on the lower portion {I had to stick that back in because I started taking it apart before I took pictures!}.

DSC06869_5924

First a new look with paint.  I stopped in our local Ace Hardware {which carries Benjamin Moore paints} and bought a 2 ounce sample pot of a gray shade called Eternity {AF-695} for all of $3.99.   The clock insert got Antique White.

Since I painted and that meant painting over the existing clock face I used one that I found online.

DSC06897_5970

I can’t remember if this was from Karen at The Graphics Fairy or another generous blogger who was offering clock faces a few months ago.  I Mod Podged it on where the original clock image was.

A clock kit that I had purchased for another project worked out well for this.

DSC06901_5974

For the bottom portion, I decided to go the memo board route and used some cork that I bought a couple of weeks ago.  I covered it with a French Script fabric in grey, that I’ve had for awhile now.

Here I just need to add the hands to the clock but I couldn’t resist taking a picture.

A couple of decorative push pins and it’s ready to tell you the time and hold some of your important messages.  Now for sale in my Etsy!  And, the clock works!

Is This What I’m Reduced To?

How is your weekend going?  I spent a good part of today working on a project for my hubby.  He’s doing a “fun day” for his team at work this coming week.  This fabric will become cornhole bags.  Yes, you read that right.  Cornhole bags.

DSC07129_6193

He’s making the boards while I’m making these.

DSC07133_6197

DSC07132_6196

Not only did I have to go buy the fabric to make them, but I had to get a bag of corn!  A 50 pound bag of corn.  Don’t even get me started.  Here are the bags sewn up and ready for the corn.

DSC07130_6194

To top it all off, my sewing machine just decided to splutter along and it appears to be on its last legs.  So I have ordered my Brother SE400 embroidery sewing machine.  I should have it next week.

Here’s me putting the corn into the bags.  Exciting stuff!  Meanwhile, here are the finished bags.

These will not be making an appearance in my Etsy.  Once the boards are all done, I’ll share the whole cornhole experience with you.

Are you kidding me?  His friend just called and asked him to make one for when they tailgate at the Bengal’s games!   It is taking everything I have not to turn 12 years old again over the name of this game.  You’re welcome.
