Summer Cloche Party

While I’m taking a break from linky parties for awhile, I couldn’t miss one of Marty’s cloche parties.  I got a few new ones since her last party and you will also see some that I always share.  I like the way they are set up so that’s how I leave them!

The one above is one of my new ones.  I got it at the Springfield Extravaganza this past May, along with the clock faces sitting under it.  The small cake pedestal was from Tuesday Morning.  I had the clock tag in with my supplies and thought it suited this cloche!

Another new one is this wire bird cage style with pedestal, which I showed you recently.  I have this one on our kitchen counter and I’m already starting to plan out how I want to decorate it for Fall.

I found this glass dome at Salvation Army.  I believe it was $.75.  I added in some of the word balls that I have had stored from when my large dome broke in our move.

The last new one is this teeny, tiny one I found at a lovely shop that my friend Sue took me to.  There was even one smaller than this one!  I have it sitting on a pretty little plate I just received from a blog swap from Deb of Garage Sale Gal, along with a beautiful cut crystal shaker.  It just fit under there!

The wire bird topped cloches I got this year ~ one holds a transferware topiary I ordered from Nancy and the other a faux succulent.

Right next to those is a small glass one on a wire stand holding some eggs at the moment.

And I still have my wine cork cloche going strong!

Over in the living room, things haven’t changed much.  I still have the PB Santos ornament under her cloche.

I put a trio of my document fabric hearts under this large glass dome; I change this one out often.  I’m planning on something spooky for it for Halloween this year and then it will probably hold some kind of Fall filler.

The bunnies are still hanging on the opposite side table.

I still have my mini cloches holding eggs on the tray in my master bedroom.

Lastly is this one I put together from Goodwill finds ~ a glass dish with cover and a sundae glass.  It sits in the guest bedroom holding a little nest and egg and a hydrangea bloom.

I’ve got plans to change a few of these out once Fall hits with all the seasonal décor.  Thanks for hosting this always-idea-inspiring party, Marty!

Vintage Hatbox Swap

I love doing swaps!  The most recent one I joined in on was hosted by Michele at Something Special and it was a Vintage Hatbox Swap.  My partner was Deb from Garage Sale Gal

Hatbox swap

We were to use a 7 or 8 inch hatbox, decorate the outside, and fill it with vintage or handmade goodies {with one thing being handmade}.  Here is the box I did for my partner, Deb.

DSC08439_7495

I found the basic box with the picture on the top, the ribbon handle, and the base in the color you see.  I added this great pleated ribbon trim with bling around the top lip and a button where the two pieces overlapped.

Then to keep with the vintage theme and the image that was already on the hatbox, I found these vintage lady graphics, which coincidentally showed them wearing hats.  What luck there!  I printed them out in a size to fit the sides of the hatbox and adhered them on.

I also found an old ladies hat advertisement {the advertisement is old, not the ladies} that I adhered to the back of the box.

Here are the goodies I sent onto Deb ~ some tags, Scrabble tiles that spell out “DEB”, dress form ready to be dressed up, little rosebud, fabric flower, label plate, a few clothespins, small white frame, a vintage Santa mug, a stamp that covers the four basic food groups {cookies, candy, cupcakes, chocolate}, and a vintage look Halloween fabric.

My handmade goody is this vintage rose graphic door hanger.

Didn’t she make it so pretty!  It was filled with loads of little goodies.

I already put that little dish to good use.

It is now being used to hold a very small cloche I bought recently.

What a fun swap and Deb was such a great partner!  Thanks Deb!

Apron, Apron, Who’s Got The Apron?

I do now, and so does my daughter, after finally utilizing Miss Flibbertigibbit’s apron tutorial.   I saw Lorraine’s apron and tutorial a few months ago and printed it out to make “some day”.  While going through my husband’s ties and pulling two out for the Goodwill box this past weekend, I decided to use them as the apron ties instead.

DSC08539_7591

I found a pair of jeans of  mine that I don’t really care for and cut the back and front to use, keeping the pockets intact.  Add in some fabric from my sewing room that I cut with pinking shears to keep me lazy and not have to sew a hem for the ruffles.

DSC08542_7594

I used some owl fabric that I had left over from when I made my daughter a pillow for hers.

DSC08541_7593

I put the ties through the loops and then just sewed the ties in place along each side on both of them.

For mine I used a grey and white striped fabric, also pinked at the bottom.

And there you go! Two aprons from a pair of jeans, two old ties and some fabric in my stash.   Cost = $0.00.

Mine will come in handy soon since I will be attending an Annie Sloan workshop.  If nothing else, maybe I will look like I know what I’m doing!

Forgot I Even Had This

When we moved last Fall from New York to Ohio, I brought all my pictures and wall décor.  It didn’t take long for me to realize that with an open floor plan, that meant less walls, which meant a lot of my pictures weren’t going to get used.  So, they wound up in the attic and under the guest room bed.  Like this one.

DSC08522_7578

I forgot I even had this picture!  I found it when I was looking for an under-bed shoe bin.   This frame was originally a white crackle with gold underneath {when I bought it}.  I then painted it black a few years ago.

DSC06602_5686

If I had more wall space in the living room, I could use it in here.  My next option is this space above the bookcases in the sunroom.

DSC08534_7607

DSC08537_7610

Very high, cathedral ceilings that just call out for something.  While I had the Coco and Old Ochre out to do the little accent table for in here, I decided to makeover this frame, yet again.

DSC08526_7582

As I mentioned in my post about the table, I wasn’t crazy about the Coco {at least for these projects} so I wound up dry brushing the Old Ochre over the frame.  The pictures above and below are pre-wax.

DSC08528_7584

I did clear then dark wax.  I was just going to do clear wax, but thought the dark wax might help give it a more aged look.

DSC08563_7619

I kept the dark wax to a minimum, but did put a bit extra in some spots to give a more aged appearance.

DSC08564_7620

DSC08565_7621

I attached some felt pads to the back {we’ve got tons since we put in the wood floors}, sat it on top of the bookcases and leaned it against the wall.

DSC08571_7627

The black would have been too harsh in here with the color scheme, so painting the frame changed it up just right for me.  I did notice afterward that the paint color wound up picking up on the color in bulb portion of the botanical, as well as the color of the background script and little flowers in the mat area.
