Valentine Swap

I love swaps in general, but I really love to do them in the beginning of the year.  I always feel like I need a little jump start to get my creativity flowing after Christmas has been put away and a swap is perfect for that.  I joined in on Vivian’s Valentine’s Swap and my partner was Joyce from Scrap for Joy.

Here is what I sent Joyce.  I showed you the Valentine candy box I embellished here.  I think I had more fun embellishing this box than I thought I would!

I used this box to put some little goodies in like Valentine themed ribbon clipped with a pretty clothes pin, a papered matchbox with Scrabble tile letters spelling out her name, two little pieces of fabric that have a paper doll theme (she likes paper dolls), a popcorn holder, a doily, and a Valentine themed stamp.  Sorry, I didn’t take pictures of all the goodies, but I wanted to leave that for Joyce to share.SONY DSC

What didn’t fit in the box – a Valentine bobble head, some pretty napkins, a heart wall hanging/open-faced card, and a tag ornament.

I had a lot of fun making and putting together these items for Joyce and I hope she really likes it all!

Dress Up A Heart Shaped Candy Box

Now that I’ve safely mailed out my Valentine’s Swap goodies to my partner, I thought I would share how I embellished a heart shaped candy box that I had saved from last Valentine’s Day.  I pulled out the box, which was very plain and with no embellishments on it, as well as some red eyelash trim, and some red and white gingham fabric scraps.

SONY DSC

This box was used to hold some of the little goodies I sent to my partner.   I made the red and white gingham fabric into a ruffle, which I hot glued to the bottom of the heart box.

SONY DSC

I attached the red eyelash trim to the lip of the lid with hot glue.  I think these two things alone added some pretty to this plain box.

For the clear cellophane “window” of the box, I cut some music scrapbook paper to fit and Mod Podged that on.

On top of that I added a doily I had gotten from a swap partner in another swap.  I then added an image that I printed out that I saw my partner had pinned on her Pinterest boards.  I still felt like it needed something, so when I found this red flat trim (in with my other trims) I decided to hot glue that around the inside of the heart.

I think it really finished it off nicely!  I had a lot of fun embellishing this plain box.  Plus, I’m glad I got to use a lot of stuff that I already had in my supplies.

A neat way to repurpose and reuse those Valentine’s candy boxes!

Paint It?

So, the cabinet came in for the bathroom.  I love it.  Except it doesn’t look white white like it did on the website.  It looks like that pickled white.

SONY DSC

I’m thinking of painting it with white paint to go better with the cabinetry in the bathroom.  It stands out for the wrong reasons when I look at it right now.

What do you think?  My gut tells me painting it would be the thing to do.

Makeover Sneak Peaks

Furniture is being moved back into place and pictures are being rehung.  I’m also waiting on the tall cabinet piece for the bathroom that will go in between the two vanities and then my husband will do the frames for the big long mirror.  Until then, I thought I’d share a couple of sneak peeks of both the bathroom and the bedroom.

SONY DSC

The bathroom color (SW Citrine color matched by Lowe’s to Valspar) took some getting used to, but I do like it.  I’m sure once the cabinet is in, and the frames are done for the mirror, it will really come together nicely.

The master bedroom color (SW Relaxed Khaki color matched by Lowe’s to Valspar) I really loved as soon as it went on the wall!

I’m slowly bringing accessories back into the room and trying to change them up a little bit, so I will be back soon with the master bedroom reveal first.

A Basketful Of Bunnies

I’ve got a basketful of bunnies!

SONY DSC

I have been busy cutting out and sewing bunnies in a variety of fabrics, in preparation for Spring and Easter in my Etsy shop.  Although, if you are like me and love bunnies, you could keep these out all year long.

SONY DSC

These bunnies will not have any added embellishments, except for some seam binding or ribbon tied around their necks, which is easily removable (no choking hazards).

SONY DSC

This is just the first batch and a sampling of what I have made so far.  Once I get these photographed and listed, I’ll get started on the next batch of bunnies!

These little guys are now in my Etsy shop and are very affordable for every bunny on your gift list!
