Pretty Baskets and A Winner!

I found another basket the other day and have been debating whether or not to put it in my Etsy shop. 

I thought it might work well in my own bathroom, where I have touches of green, to hold the extra roll of toilet paper.

What do you think?

I have three others for sale, besides the things I make and sew.

They work great to display my little things, like these pillow hangers.

I love the size of these because they all fit on a tabletop nicely and with their open designs don’t take up a lot of visual space.  I wish I could find a spot for all of them.  Maybe if I get the bookshelves I’m looking for in my craft/sewing room!

A Too Cute Thrifty Find

Wednesday I decided to go to both Goodwill and Salvation Army, as they are not far away from each other and along the same road. I like to check in and look for those things that I’ve been watching and waiting for, which I still haven’t found yet.  However, my disappointment usually fades fairly quickly when I do find things like this.

From Salvation Army, my total was $7.46.  The large container/umbrella stand was marked “As Is” and was half off.  I checked it out all over and couldn’t see anything wrong with it so I’m not sure what the “as is” was talking about.

This wall pocket ~ $.99! I’m pretty sure it’s plastic, but with a new paint job it’s going to look like a million bucks!

This little terra cotta pot.  Also, $.99, and this will also be getting a  paint job and some prettifying.

My “too cute” find was at the Goodwill and was really the only thing I got there. This cute little Fisher Price baby doll stroller.

My daughter just said to me the day before, “if you see a little stroller . . . because she likes to push hers.”  And there it was!  For $2.99 it came home with me and got a good cleaning with Chlorox wipes and some Febreeze. 

It is in very good condition, except for some wear on the wheels, but that’s okay. It just means some other little cutie enjoyed her stroller as mine will!

Getting It All Ready

I’m sure I’m doing this backwards from the way most people would show off a room redo, but I want to show you a couple of things I did before going in and finishing the decorating of my granddaughter’s room.  I promise, that post is coming!  I wanted to use clip-on rings for the drapery and I couldn’t find the off white or ivory color that I wanted to go with the rod. So I bought these silver ones at Target when I was there one day.

I had Heirloom White spray paint already and that was basically the color I wanted anyway.  So I took a wire hanger {one of the good times you can use them} and clipped the rings onto the hanger.

I hung this hanger from a bent up hanger in my garage to give them a quick spray.  With no additional cost, and maybe a half hour total to spray 14 clip-on rings, I got the color I wanted.

The second item I worked on was this blue frame I got at the Christmas Tree Shop on clearance.  It had no glass and this is how I got it for $.78.

The price stickers had been put on the front of the wood frame.  {Why, oh why, do they do that??}.

It has some paint chipped in parts, too.  I sanded and used WD-40 to get the label glue off.  Then I looked to see if I had any blue craft paint close to this color.  I also found an old frame I wasn’t using to take the piece of glass from.

I just painted the very front of the frame where I really wanted the coverage and left the lighter blue of the original color on the beveled edges.  With it’s little bit of distressing, I think it looks pretty good.

I added a picture of my granddaughter from when we did our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party last year {I can’t believe it’s almost a year ago!}.  This frame is now good to go!

A Tisket, A Tasket, A Ruffle For A Basket

I love this round basket! I’ve had this for a few years now and shared it when I picked up a few baskets at a yard sale.  When I bought it, it was natural and had a very 80’s country wood plaque on the front of it. 

At that time, I removed the wood piece and spray painted the basket Heirloom White, and it became a catch-all for a variety of things around my house.

Now that we have moved, I don’t have a real use for it and it is just taking up space on my craft room floor. I decided to use it in my granddaughter’s room makeover ~ it could hold clean diapers or stuffed animals.

I found I had a few of these strip sized scraps of a blue linen fabric I bought not too long ago.  So, I ruffled it and hot glued it to the top rim of the basket. 

I had this pretty blue and cream flat trim and I hot glued that over the sewn edge.

It works out great because we are using blue as an accent color {the carpet and existing up/down pleated shades are blue}.

Here I’m showing it with some toys I have at my house for my granddaughter, but she has several stuffed Alice in Wonderland toys that would look great hanging out in this basket.  

I’m getting closer to the prettifying part of the room.  I just finished painting the second coat on the trim and my plan is to get in there next week and bring all the pieces of the puzzle together!

The Little Grey Table

Remember this cute little table I found at Goodwill a few weeks ago?

It was $19.99.  I decided to paint it grey to use in our main bathroom next to the tub. I used up the rest of my ASCP Paris Grey sample pot on the main portion of the table.

And the Heirloom White that I made into a chalk paint for the top insert area.  It is very much like the ASCP Old White.  In fact, I used it on my terrarium project and when I photographed it on my French dresser makeover piece {which was done with ASCP Old White} they looked like a set.

I just did some clear wax on it for protection and left it at that.  I did put a few little things on it for the pictures.

Although, I’m sure this is how it will be serving us for most of the time.

I’m going to change out a few things to make a Spring/Summer look in this bathroom this week.  I also need to go back to Target and get some hand towels I saw.  I didn’t get them the first time because I thought $9.99 a piece was a bit high for hand towels, but I keep thinking  how well they would work in here.
