Button Heart

SONY DSC

I’ve seen pictures of button hearts on Pinterest and since I have a bunch of buttons I decided to make this project for Valentine’s Day.  I had a red frame that I repurposed from a Christmas project I had done last year.  I used a piece of some Osnaberg scrap that I had and cut it to fit the frame, along with a piece of cardboard to attach it to.  I just stapled it along the edges. The staples will be hidden by the lip of the frame.

I printed out a heart template and penciled it in so that I could just follow the lines.  You can see that here and I’ve also started laying out the buttons.

Here is the outline with the buttons glued on.  I used small drops of hot glue to glue each button down.  You could leave this as it is with just the outline, but I decided to fill mine in.

All framed up!  I had to glue another button to the top of the frame itself because the thing I had glued there originally left a bit of a mess.  Otherwise I would have just left the frame alone.

Here are some of the other button hearts I have seen on Pinterest.  Love the frame on this one!

I think I might have to keep my eye out for some red and pink buttons!  For now, I’m liking mine done in whites and creams.

Love Letter Pocket

Of course, it’s not just for love letters, but that was what I had in mind when I made these.  I think these would make great Valentine’s Day gift bags, too.  Also, filled with whatever and hanging off the back of a chair, doorknob or hook.

Made with scraps and remnants I have here, I feel like I am putting a dent in my fabric stash.  Images are from The Graphics Fairy.

I’ve got three more waiting on my sewing table to be put together.

Meanwhile, you can find these three in my Etsy if you are interested.

New Items For My Etsy

I’m having trouble getting motivated, but I seem to recall having the same problem this time last year, too.  I did manage to get myself going to make a few things for my Etsy.

And a shoulder tote.  I also did a few things specifically for Valentine’s Day for my Etsy and I’ll share them in my next post.

I have a project on the to-do list that I hope to get to soon involving a stencil.  Meanwhile, I’m keeping warm and doing a lot of reading!

Projects I’d Like To Try In 2014

I thought I’d make a record of the projects I’d like to try in 2014.   In no particular order, here are some that have caught my interest.  I have all these saved on my Pinterest boards.  The problem is that sometimes these things get lost in the shuffle, so hopefully doing this post will help me out.

SEWING PROJECTS:

Useful and pretty - good for using up pretty scraps. I love these!

These pretty, what I would call, “sewing companions”.  A great way to use up some of those smaller pieces of leftover fabric.  I’ve bookmarked this blog since the Pinterest picture doesn’t take you to the actual post, so I will have to look for it when I’m ready to make them.  Otherwise, I will just go off the picture.  She’s got lots of creative ideas.

Use the pre-made ruffles from Joann's ~ maybe?

I’d like to try something like this dress for my granddaughter.  I think it could be an easy project.

Upcycled jeans kindle cover tutorial. Cute!

Another Kindle cover. I think this would be an easy project using the bottom leg of jeans {which is already finished}.

DIY Projects:

Hand Painted Christmas Signs

This “Peace” sign and/or something similar to this “Noel” sign.

Thrift Shop Letter & Junk Wood Noel Sign www.organizedclutterqueen.blogspot.com

{Filthy to Fancy} Organizer Makeover. A dirty hardware organizer gets a fancy French makeover.

A wooden organizer I have in my craft/sewing room will be getting a makeover that I’d like to do similar to this one.

CRAFTS:

Something; anything, with all the Altoids tins I’ve been holding onto!

Rag lamp shade {for my craft sewing room lamp}.

A rag lampshade for the second lamp in my craft/sewing room.

I’m sure I’ll come across more things I want to try making or doing, but I think these will give me a good start for the new year!

My Favorite Projects of 2013

The year in review of projects, which is always fun to look back on, because sometimes I forget what I’ve done over the course of the year.  Jumping back to January, my favorite, and the most popular {with 2,811 views), was the Kindle cover I made.

In April, I was happy to come up with something I liked for our small entry/foyer in our condo.

I feel like I accomplished a lot in May and three favorites are from that month.  My grain sack table makeover.

The clothespin bag I made from the cloth packaging that held a dust ruffle.

And my jewelry armoire makeover.

In June, I made a crib size rag quilt, which was a first for me, for a new baby gift.

In July, I had two projects that I enjoyed doing.  One was this clock makeover for my granddaughter.

As well as the cabinet door makeover, from one I found at Goodwill.

In August, I loved the magnetic frame I did from a framed print. The frame was so pretty and I was really happy with how this turned out.

I also tried sewing Christmas stockings for the first time and was really pleased with the way they turned out.

Popular on Pinterest, and something I enjoyed making for my son, in September was this double-sided anatomy and skull pillow.

I was happy to get around to making some new chair slips out of dropcloth in October.

My Hotel de Paris sign in November had a lot of views and doing this sign gave me the confidence to look forward to doing more along this line.

Ending the year with a new lampshade project for our master bedroom in December.

I’ve realized as I’ve looked back over these posts that there were a lot of “first time” projects for me, which I am so glad now that I gave a try.  Have you found that you have done the same?  I’m looking forward to seeing what projects I will take on in 2014!
