Going For The Gold

Going for it and painting over it!  I finally picked up some Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and I have to say that I love it just as much as the bloggers who’ve mentioned it.

Just to give you a small sample, I bought these little ceramic fleur de lys pieces from Dollar Tree a few weeks ago.  Rather than go with white or black I thought I’d try the Oil Rubbed Bronze on them.

I love the way they turned out!

I found two pictures in my basement with gold frames and cherub-y type pictures that had been in my daughter’s room, and decided to paint out the gold with the Oil Rubbed Bronze.  {I thought I had before pictures of them, but I can’t find them}.  I also wanted to change out the pictures in these frames, too.  I found this picture/poster at Michael’s and used my 40% off coupon.  I figured I could cut it to adapt to the larger of the two frames.

Save the scraps; they can be used on another project {or as you will see below}.

Here is how it turned out.

Love it!

I had also picked up a couple of sheets of scrapbook paper and had actually purchased this one to do on one of the clipboards I found at Target.  {I’ve already cut out the image in this picture}.

Since it had a French design, and the picture I had just completed also had a French design, I decided to use the scrapbook paper as the image for the second, smaller picture.  It was a bit small for the frame, so I used the excess edging I cut off from the picture and used that over the mat area.  Here you can see the original image that I am going right over ~ mat and all.

I cut out the Eiffel Tower portion of the scrapbook paper and put that on top ~ centered.  I used double sided tape to attach everything to the original mat and picture.

I’m really pleased with the way both turned out!  I thought I was going to have a difficult time finding pictures to fit these frames, but it turned out well doing it on my own.

Now I just need to paint that gold mirror!

Don’t forget to enter the current giveaway!  It ends Thursday!

Kathy, I really enjoyed seeing your before and afters. I read about this fabulous paint last fall and have gone through 2 cans. It really can turn hum drum into fabulous, as you have shown us. I love what you've done.

Are you having to spray paint indoors do to horribly cold and snowy weather? I've had to put off paint projects because it is so very cold outdoors. :(

Kathy,
You are so cooooool! No wonder you are an interior designer extraordinaire! What a creative idea. I'm going to copy you, you know?
Here on the coast the beach visitors love painted frames for their beach houses. I have several that I ususally sell in my booth. Maybe I'll keep a few for myself and see what I can do.

Great post and project.

I've used the oil rubbed bronze paint before too and have really liked it. It's always fun (and kind of amazing) to see how different things look once they've been painted.

Doesn't it spray on like Butta! At least the Rustoleum kind did. Thanks for sharing, I'm thinking of painting my old brass chandelier with ORB!

Your projects turned out fabulously! I can not find that paint!!!! Who makes it and where could I find it? I have to get me some. I've read so much about over the years on blogs, but just can't seem to locate any. I'm probably looking in the wrong stores.

Thanks for sharing.

Your framed artwork looks great!!

I've been going crazy with my cans of oil rubbed bronze paint. Yes, I said cans -- I bought a lot of six!! I've sprayed all the outlet covers in the kitchen, some dollar store finds, a silver Christmas star decoration from Pier 1.... if it doesn't move, chances are I'll spray it ORB!!
