A Little Change

I made a little change that I thought made a nice difference.

This is my laundry room. It's very neat and organized, but a little plain. I have everything I need stored in the white cabinets and even have some room to spare. The cabinets go up to the ceiling, so I keep what I use on a daily basis on the bottom shelves.

Hubby put in a fold down counter for folding laundry, but most of the time it is down.

I put in the fold away clothes hanger, which is great because it folds down when not in use.

I had put the picture up earlier this year but really wanted a little bit more in here {especially since my back is to the picture when I'm in here}. I would love to have some of the laundry rooms I see {like Rhoda's at Southern Hospitality}, but it's a small area and I don't have enough room in here for lamps and other lovely things.

I found a vinyl saying that I liked and, after measuring to make sure it would fit, ordered it and just put it up this past Friday. What do you think?

I love it! I get a kick out of seeing it every time I've gone in here this past weekend. So while it's not a major Metamorphosis, it's enough of one to make me smile.
Linking this post up to Metamorphosis Monday over at Between Naps on the Porch.

I have been thinking when I get to my laundry room I'd like to add some vinyl lettering, but hadn't seen anything like this. I like it!

Also loving that fold away hanging system, another thing I might be able to fit into my TINY laundry room. Thanks for sharing!! Janell

Great addition! Was it difficult to apply the decal to the wall? I've always wondered how easy those decals are ...

The arrival of my new washer and dryer this past week kick-started a laundry room makeover at my house, as well!

I think you came up with the perfect solution to brighten up your laundry room!
Have a great week.

Love the saying and the picture! I need a shelf like that too to fold things on. I have a very small laundry room so I know how you feel.

Kathy,

I love your laundry room and the folding table is a fantastic idea. I wish I had the room for one. The saying you have on the wall is *so* cute. Great job! ~Liz

I love, love it. I love to wash my dinner napkins and fold them and put them neatly away in a basket or my credenza... it is theraputic for me ... I know I am odd.
I enjoyed this post. Nice paint on cabinets, looks like oil base.

I like the changes. Can I ask where you got the fold away hanging thingy? Is it sturdy enough to hold a very heavy load?

Nice job.

Jen ~ Ha! I've seen that one too, but I figured since my house has been on the market, I might want to skip that one!

Hi Melissa! There are so many pre-made ones that I like ~ it was kind of hard to choose, but I'm glad I went with this one.

Thank you ALVN! I'm really glad I put it up!

What's nice now, Lisa, is that, as I mindlessly fold towels, I can look ahead and see it.

CECOAKLEY ~ You might not want to look at Rhoda's then {the link I put in}. I absolutely love hers!

2sisters ~ I think it's a cute addition to the room! I'm so glad I did it!

Marty ~ And there are bi-fold doors so I could bring in a stool and hide for a while doing something crafty!

Janell ~ That little fold-out hanging thingy was probably the least expensive thing in that laundry room and I use it all the time.

Get Your Martha On ~ I followed the instructions and used tape on each end corner and then one piece of tape right down the middle. Then you have to work one side at a time. I guess because it's long {23-24"}. I almost had an issue with the "N" in "Laundry" {not sticking and then shifting}, but it turned out okay.

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

Thanks, Jane! I'm loving it!

It is a handy shelf, Angie! I can't leave it up though because it would be hit into several times a week with baskes, and I could see me hitting my head as I'm coming up from bending over a laundry basket. Better it stay down unless I'm actually using it!

I will look for the receipt Maddycakes and email you where I got it. Thanks!

Thanks, Liz! The fold-down counter/table was hubby's idea and I have to say that sometimes he does have good ones!

Actually, Lee, those were just basic cabinets we got from Home Depot ~ they came as you see them. Which was great because I did want white in there. You'd love my little fold down counter then; a perfect little spot to fold napkins.

Thanks, Rhonda! The only problem is that then you look for other areas to do them in!

Butteryum ~ I am almost 100% certain that I got it from the Lillian Vernon catalog online. If you screw it into studs it should hold a pretty heavy amount. I use it for button down shirts, polo's, things I just don't trust in the dryer. It is not really big enough to hold a full large load of laundry if that's what you mean. The most I've hung on here is maybe 6 tops on hangers.

I love it! I also have a small laundry room that is also a pass through from our garage. I feel like I can't even turn around in there without bumping into something, but I would love to install a fold down shelf. Great idea! I love the sunny color you picked for your walls!

I want that in my laundry room....super cute!!

What a cute saying! I had a laundry "closet" in my old house and I hated it. One day I painted the walls baby blue and put in a border right above the washer and dryer at eye level and I never hated that closet again!

Love the quote. Am in the process of doing up my laundry room/larder (I'm calling it my 'lardry'). It's so small I don't have much room to play with, but it's going to look a whole lot better than before. xx

I LOVE IT! Such a little thing that made a big difference.

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

Thanks, Carolyn! We found the brackets that fold down online and it really works out great.

Thanks, Janis! It's such a little thing, but I love that it works so well for me.

It really is amazing how something little like that can make such a difference, Dena. I like that I can see it every time I step in there now.

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

@nannykim ~ it's a good solution for me because if I had to, I could remove it, since our house was on the market {off for the holidays} and going back on in February.

Thank you, Andi! I hope you'll share your "lardry" with us when you're done!

Thanks L ~ I was thinking the same thing! Those are the best kinds of projects!

Who doesn't love Rhoda's to die for Laundry room! She inspired me as well. Love your decal. I just spruced up our laundry room as well and need to rub my decal on still. I already posted abt the transformation but maybe next week I will share on Kimba's!

It looks great and I may copy your idea in my laundry room. Thanks for sharing.

I love that saying and I love that it makes you smile. Isn't that what adding those little touches is all about? Really adds to the laundry room too! Love your fold down ironing board - makes me wonder if I could figure out a place to put one. Have a good day!

I think it looks perfect in that space and I love what it says! My laundry room is actually just a closet, but it opens just across from my bedroom, so I see its yukkiness all the time. I GOTTA do something about it SOON!

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

I know Pamela ~ when my laundry room grows up it wants to be Rhoda's!

It makes for a nice little decorative touch, Joyce.

Thanks, PK! It gives me something to look at, too, when I'm folding clothes.

Thanks, Tammy! It is very helpful to have these things, but be able to keep them out of the way when not in use.

Thanks, Maryann!

Nice to put a touch of whimsy or fun in every room, Danielle!

Might as well, Cindy! We're in there all the time, right?
