A Cookie Sheet Memo Board

IMG_4356_2061
I took over this area in our garage that already had a little cart/counter that my hubby made years ago.  It’s just the right size for me to do projects, has space for me to keep some of the things I use a lot and has a nice light I can kick on so I can see what I’m doing.

I wanted to have somewhere I could put pictures, instructions, and ideas of things I might want to make.  So I took an old cookie tray we had {clean, but old}.
IMG_4345_2078
Please note that just because your tray may be metal, this does not mean that it will hold magnets.  You may need to use a magnetic paint on the tray first.  {Don’t ask me how I know}.

I bought a blue craft paint to paint around the edging of the tray and did two coats.
IMG_4348_2080
I measured my scrapbook paper and cut it to size.  I had to use about a sheet and a half to fit this tray.  I chose to use a paper with a soft blue background and faint writing on it.  While doing this, I thought that the blue paint was a bit too bright for the paper.  I grabbed a can of oak stain that we had and wiped that over the blue to tone it down.
IMG_4350_2081
I put Mod Podge on the tray and on the paper, lining up the second piece as close as possible.
IMG_4352_2082
Once dry, I applied Mod Podge over the top of the whole thingI still have to finish a couple of things, like finishing it off to hang over this little countertop.  Then I’ll be able to put some of my potential projects up there for inspiration!

This is such a cute idea! Kathy, Ilove how you claimed this spot in the garage. "Use it or lose it" is a great motto we use in our house...my husband might lose his WHOLE garage. haha.

Hi Kathy- I just love what you did with the cookie sheet. I am in cleaning mode and trying to get my office super organized. I just finished covering an Ikea magnetic board that was my daughters cast-off with fabric. If I need another one you can bet I am going to my kitchen and grabbing a cookie sheet.

Now you need to make some cute glass bead magnets to go on your cute memo board!

Hi Kathy. I love the paint and scrap book paper you chose. I'd much rather see something created from something with another purpose than something new.

Hugs...Tracy :)

This is too cute and so clever for a kitchen! I envy your having a project space--although I would freeze to death in our garage right now!

What a great idea! I love this and I love how the oak stain over the blue looks!

I know how tough it is to have a house on the market. Been there done that. I was trying to sell my house on my own, and it was a hassle! Then, on the day that I was going to list it with a realtor, because we already had a contract on another house, someone called me, came to look at it and bought it! We were extremely lucky! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you are able to sell yours SOON!! It's so hard to keep it in "Show" condition!

Cute idea. Using a non-magnetic cookie tray is something I would accidentally do. I could have a entire blog devoted to "projects gone wrong!" :)

That is so darling! I love it. What a great place to hang your inspiration.

We are SOOOOOOOOOO excited about the feature! Let us know what you need us to do (if anything).

Kathy,
That is one cute memo board! Great job!

I love toile too. I also have some green and white toile fabric that I don't know what to do with. I've had it for years but I won't get rid of it. One of these days I'll find just the right project and use it!

Very cute! This is a great substitute for those of us who have stainless fridges (they're not magnetic). Love it!

I'm always eyeing cookie sheets at Goodwill with the intention of doing something like this - I LOVE how yours turned out! {And I've told myself I need to carry a small magnet in my purse to test out metals...you're right! Magnets won't stick to aluminum.}

Kim @ Starshine Chic said...

Cute!!! And sounds easy. My kind of project. Thanks for visiting my blog & leaving me a comment.

I love it, fabulous idea as ALWAYS. Now I know what I could do with the bent up cookie sheet I'm hanging onto for some reason.
